The funniest thing about this post is I believe I am one of very few who doesn't even belong to the school of Mason Gross. However, ever since I was a little kid not only did I look at things differently and think of things differently, but I always enjoyed making and creating things that were visually pleasing or simply creative and new. When I say I think of things differently it's not necessarily in the sense of this color goes better with this color, or, "Oh the trees are oh so beautiful in the fall". No. More or less I literally have always seen some kind of interesting beauty in everything. Whether it is the dirt on the street or everyday objects that so many people are used to overlooking. This is because to me everything has some kind of story and meaning otherwise it wouldn't be there.
I also enjoy painting and drawing, making things, video editing etc. So in that sense I consider myself an artist. But I do those things for enjoyment (and school), and I do not think I would ever want something I love to do to become something I have to become stressed out about and forced to "make" to make a living. Honestly in this time, with all the financial issues that everyone is dealing with (I know all too well because I am already on my own) there is no way that I would be able to survive "making art" per say.
However that does not mean that an artistic vision isn't placed on every action and thought that I have.
So yes, there is no doubt in my mind that I am an artist.
